The 4th U13 International Youth Cup Vietnam-Japan 2022 - U13 Ho Chi Minh City were crowned champions

Having taken place from March 18 to 20, 2022 in Binh Duong New City, the 4th U13 International Youth Cup Vietnam-Japan 2022 ended with the champion title going to the young players of U13 Ho Chi Minh City.

The fourth season event of 2022 assembles 8 football clubs, including 7 domestic clubs of Becamex Binh Duong FC, Binh Phuoc FC, Phu Nhuan (HCMC) FC, U13 Van Tam Dong Nai, U13 HCMC, An Giang FC, Binh Duong Youth Football Training Center, and a football club of Japanese and Vietnamese players run by Kawasaki Frontale FC - Kawasaki Frontale Dream Team.

This year’s championship was honored to welcome Mr. Yamada Takio - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Vietnam to the March 18’s Opening Ceremony as the championship’s Honorary Advisor, as well as Mr. Watanabe Nobuhiro - Consul General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City for the Closing Ceremony on March 20. Moreover, the Central Committee of the Government Party-Secretary of Provincial Party Committee of Binh Duong-representative of the Congress party Mr. Nguyen Van Loi, Mr. Nguyen Van Danh, the Vice Chairman of Provincial People’s Committee, as well as representatives from other related departments and offices also attended the ceremonies.

After 3 days of enthusiastic competition, the 2 clubs that made it to the final match were U13 Ho Chi Minh City and Kawasaki Frontale Dream Team. The young U13 Ho Chi Minh City players excellently scored 3-0 over Kawasaki Frontale and were crowned champions; Kawasaki Frontale Dream Team held the runner-up title, while U13 Became Binh Duong ranked 3rd after the play-off for the third place with U13 Binh Phuoc.

The Closing and Awards ceremony on March 20 afternoon were followed by the All Star match featuring the best players from all teams, the players were divided into “Japan” and “Vietnam” teams. The triumph went to the “Japan” team with the score of 3-2.

Mr. Watanabe Nobuhiro - Consul General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City shared at the Closing ceremony: “The players have tried their best at the tournament, and had the most impressive performances. I believe that Vietnamese’s football will definitely continue to advance, and Vietnam will become a strong football nation".

The Consul General also hoped that in the next year - the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Japan Friendship and Cooperation, the players from Japan can also participate and the two nation’s players can then have chances to compete and learn from each other in the tournament. At the same time, he called for the related partners to keep on hosting great sports events like this for the young players of Japan and Vietnam.

The U13 International Youth Cup Vietnam-Japan is an annual event held in Binh Duong New City, starting from the football exchange activities between the 2 football clubs of Kawasaki Frontale from Japan and Becamex Binh Duong from Vietnam since 2013, followed by the football activities and football classes for teenagers of the 2 nations held every year. In 2018, to mark the 45th anniversary of Vietnam-Japan Friendship and Cooperation, the scale of the friendly matches broadened the horizons of 2 teams, and grew into the U13 International Youth Cup Vietnam-Japan. The championship then started to welcome the participation of many more football clubs from both countries. The championship aims for making a professional tournament for the next generations of football players, enable their dreams, and nurture their talent, as well as promote the spirit of international exchanges and promote mutual understanding between the two countries.
